Memories from Mourie? & Teddy Raymond, written August 2026 by Mourie?

Teddy Raymond was born at the “Back Lodge” on the Aubries Estate in 1933, he and his wife Mourie? And 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls. All the boys worked the land at the Aubries, the girls went to London in service.

Teds mother came from Pentlow at 13½ years old worked as a kitchen maid, worked her way up and became maid to Mrs. Burke.

Met Teds Dad (Albert Raymond), the Burkes’ let them live at the Back Lodge near the old Ice House in Sandy Lane, they lived there till 1950, Ted went into the army, Mum and Dad moved to Colchester. When Ted could drive we always went back down Sandy Lane where the Back Lodge used to be.

Ted could tell many a tale how hard life was.
